The game of poker is played in clubs, casinos, and private homes across the globe. It is most popular in North America, where it originated. It is played with a standard deck of 52 cards, although there are several variants based on different numbers of players.

A bluff is a tactic by which a player attempts to convince another player to fold his or her hand. The bluff may take the form of a bet or a forced bet. Unlike the other vying games, a player must match the bet to win.

Poker can be played with as few as two players, or as many as eight or nine. It has a variety of variations, from community card poker to stud poker. Most of them require that a player put a certain number of chips into the pot before he or she can play.
